"When you are complaining, you become a living crap
magnet." T. Harv Eker

Did you know complaining, even when it seems justified, sets up a certain kind of energy pattern in your brain, hence, your body, hence, your life? Complaining is not a solution. A solution is a solution.

When you find yourself complaining, stop. Now, get to work on a solution, With dignity.

You're not a crap magnet, are you?

Change, The Only Constant...But Not Always Under Your Control

This list comes via a great little book called The Five Things We Cannot Change...and The Happiness We Find by Embracing Them - David Richo 2005:

  1. Everything changes and ends
  2. Things do not always go according to plan
  3. Life is not always fair
  4. Pain is part of life
  5. People are not loving and loyal all the time

If you live by the Three Promises, you can embrace all this chaos with aplomb and a smile...
  •  Find joy every day. (It's always around, if you look for it.)
  • Do what you love. (Even if you have to squeeze it in between difficult tasks.)
  • Make a difference. (Small things matter; no need to make it major, at least not all the time.
Change is not always simple nor easy. But you can make it a little less difficult by choosing to be a player rather than a dupe.

Europe and Its Debt to the Native Americans, North, Central, South

If you believe in the 'righteousness' of capitalism, I highly
recommend you read this slightly edited speech to European heads of state by a representative of South American indigenous communities:

I, Guaicaipuro Cuatemoc, have come to meet with the participants at this meeting. Here, I, descendent of those who have lived in [the Americas] for 40,000 years, have come to meet with those who met us 500 years ago.

My brothers, the European userers, ask me to repay a debt of treachery from a Judas I never authorized to put me up for collateral. My brother, the European hypocrite, explains to me that all debts must be paid with interest even while he buys and sells human beings and entire countries without their consent.

Proven it is, in the archives of Native peoples, by paper upon paper, receipt upon receipt, and signature upon signature, that between the years 1503 and 1660 there arrived at San Lucas de Barrameda* [Spain] 185,000 kilos of gold and 16,000,000 kilos of silver from the Americas. Those...kilos of gold...[and]...silver should be seen as the first of many, many friendly loans from the Americas toward European development. The contrary would be to assume war crimes [against the Europeans] and not only immediate recompense, but indemnity for damages, pain, and suffering.

Five Power Points of Wisdom...For Free!

I found these little gems in a small but  motivating book called Sacred Commerce by Matthew and Terces Englehart. I share them with you without further comment:

1. Safe is a sedative.
2. You don't have complaints; complaints have you.
3. Look at what you have an abundance of now. That is what you are worshiping.
4. If you are not failing often, you are playing a small game.
5. Everything is teaching you something.

Nothing better than chowing down with good friends, even if they visit only twice a year from Baja, CA, MX. And especially at Sweet Tomato's buffet in Clackamas/Portland, Oregon.

Steven and Dalia Sammler, thanks for being part of my life.

Self Proclaimed Racist Killer Shoots Nine in Charleston Church

This week, a demented young White man walked into a traditionally Black church in Charleston, SC, and killed nine people who had welcomed him into their Wednesday evening bible study. He was on a mission to kill and to instigate a new civil war.

Six women and three men lost their lives due to this man's proclaimed racism and hatred of Black people.

The families of the victims have chosen to forgive the shooter. Most of us might not have the courage to do that. They are to be applauded.

In the mean time, while US flags flew at half staff, the Confederate flag at the State Capitol continues to fly full mast. Speaks volumes.

Forgiveness, however, is not the same as justice. The shooter is in custody and will eventually pay for his crimes…against the people, the church, and the United States.

Sweeping Aside Discrimination In Ireland….

From the New York Times today:

DUBLIN — Ireland became the first nation to approve same-sex marriage by a popular vote, sweeping aside the opposition of the Roman Catholic Church in a resounding victory Saturday for the gay rights movement and placing the country at the vanguard of social change.

Congrats to the LGBTQ community in Ireland. Next: The world.

Thugs and the Media

Just an observation…

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have yet to hear the national media refer to the White biker gang members currently locked in Waco, TX jails as thugs. Considering the massacre in recent days at the Twin Peaks establishment there, you would think the term would have been shouted from the proverbial rafters.

After the Baltimore protests last month, the term 'thug' was bandied about in regard to Black protesters by most of the big news outlets.

Do thugs only come in the color Black?

Just a question...

The Pledge of Allegiance: A Short, Embarrassing History

You may think 'Under God' and 'with liberty and justice for all'
are original to the Pledge. Guess again…

The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a Socialist Baptist Minister named Edward Bellamy in 1892 for a magazine contest. That magazine, The Youth's Companion, was looking for a gimmick to increase circulation and figured that if they could commission something that would become routine in public schools, that would help promote their image.

Bellamy’s version of the Pledge of Allegiance went thusly:

'I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'
"He had originally wanted to end the pledge with 'equality and fraternity for all'… but those around him felt that it might inadvertently promote extending equality to black people and women, so he went with the patriarchally friendly 'liberty and justice' instead.

The Universe In A Twig

Eternal life, just as it should be...

I can already smell the change in the earth outside my back door. Something is happening, stirring, awakening.
I spot a small green sprout. It’s not one of the garden plants that went to sleep last fall; it’s a tiny little clover-like weed. Simple, unassuming, profound.
Interestingly enough, it took all of creation’s energies to bring that little living twig into existence. Without everything that has ever occurred, in all space and time, that one little plant would never have arrived. It existed from the moment of creation.
Star stuff.
The same atoms that once built galaxies are moving around exuberantly within the little leaves. The very protons that once rested in the core of the sun now spread themselves out as chlorophyll to welcome their stellar cousins, traveling through space at 186,000 miles per second to become one with the leaves, the stems, the roots. Soon the little plant will die and give way to the larger ones and later, in a month or so, the process begins all over again. The summer weeds. Chaotic, turbulent, and quite grand.

The essence of the little weed is eternal.

You, too.

America's Young People: Smarter Than You May Think

Think kids these days are not as smart, as intelligent, as previous generations? Guess again.

I had the sheer joy of presenting my Leadership 101: Self Mastery to a group of students and their mentors last evening (1/22/15) at Cesar Chavez School in No. Portland.

These kids are sharp, dedicated, maintain exceptional grade point averages, and already have mapped out their futures. One is headed for law, another for medicine, still another for pharmacology. And one is already proficient in computer science. He has Google in his sites.

Thing is, these kids range in age from 13-17. They have powerful senses of humor, can dance, understand the hip hop generation, and like One Direction.

If they are any indication, America is good hands.

Understanding Muhammad

Today, in Paris, a number of armed, masked gunman killed 10 people, mostly journalists, in revenge for what they considered 'blasphemous cartoons against the Prophet.'

The following was posted on one of Facebook news sites and should be carefully considered by both Muslims and non Muslims alike:

Apparently the killers shouted "Mohammed has been avenged." Let us decipher this ill-founded treatment.

The Prophet was mistreated on a daily basis. His signed treaties with Makkah were betrayed, he was stoned, verbally abused, property bedraggled, fr
iends tortured, and worse horrors than a bigoted magazine. Not once did he retaliate with murder. The only act of war which directly followed these hostilities was the Battle of Badr, and even that started at the behest of Makkans who chased after him when he migrated.

The Prophet explicitly said "take the moderate road" and "avoid extremism." To kill in return for images? That is the very definition of extremism. If your faith was really as strong as you claimed it to be, you would know there would be accountability at a better place and a better time. For all.

If anyone feels this twisted plot with innocents involved fulfills any notion of "revenge", please reevaluate your feelings. It is easy to feel that way, but we should not.

Aggression is never the answer.
